The ending was also satisfying but also made me a little sad. Maybe it was the author’s intention that this monster was vague to remain a mystery to the readers. I was not so sure if my theory of how it was created was correct.

However, the new monster just popped up and remained a mystery until the end. Corsai, Sunai, and Malchai’s creation were explained. The only issue I had that I only realized later was the lack of details about the fourth monster. Every action and scene was etched in my mind vividly. I really liked how Schwab weaved her words. The plot of course was still interesting as ever. They were a non-binary sunai and I love them. I both had love-hate feelings for his character. Kate, on the other hand, didn’t change much if not fiercer and smarter. I felt so bad for him, but I did understand his choice to toughen up. Living in Verity taught him that you needed to be stronger since it truly was a survival of the fittest. His dream of becoming a human was set aside to become the side of him that he did not want to be.

But he was not the August I knew from the first book. The very first thing I realized while reading this novel is how much I missed August. Would they be able to defeat this unknown monster despite the other monsters that waited for Kate’s return? Kate had to go back to Verity to warn August about the danger of this monster that could destroy Verity even more. It fed on chaos and twisted its victims’ minds. On one of Kate’s hunts, she encountered a new, bizarre monster. August Flynn was now a leader of the Verity’s protection force. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it as a whole, and I think there is no other ending that can wrap up this amazing duology.Īfter fleeing Verity, Kate Harker became a monster hunter in the city of Prosperity. Initially, I rated this a solid 5-star, but after talking with some friends who also read this book, I realized there was some minor issue that I overlooked. I really love the first book, and I can say that I also enjoyed Our Dark Duet. If I remember correctly, it took me almost a year or two before finally picking up the finale of Monsters of Verity duology. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
